Unlike the ISS, Hubble or Starlink, Roman cannot be meaningfully shown with a latitude/longitude ground track. The scientifically useful view is its deep-space journey, range from Earth, mission phase, L2 geometry and later its orbit around the L2 region.

Where is the Roman Space Telescope now?

Roman launched successfully on August 30, 2026 and is traveling independently toward an orbit around Sun–Earth L2, roughly 1.5 million kilometers from Earth. The tracker above models its progress while displaying NASA’s latest public mission updates.

Is this NASA live telemetry?

No. The page deliberately distinguishes official NASA mission status from calculated transit values. NASA’s Deep Space Network tracks Roman precisely for mission operations, but a continuous public navigation-vector feed is not currently exposed for this tracker.

Why doesn’t Roman have a map like the ISS?

Roman is traveling to deep space rather than orbiting close to Earth. A ground-track map would therefore be misleading. An Earth-to-L2 3D mission geometry is the appropriate visualization.

How long will Roman take to reach its operating region?

NASA describes Roman’s trip, deployments, activations, calibrations and tests as an approximately three-month commissioning period on the way to its final orbit.
