How to use the Starlink satellite map

The map is optimized for a large constellation, so it first gives you the global view. Select a satellite or use search to focus on one object. Once selected, the tracker shows its NORAD ID, altitude, latitude and longitude. Set your location to calculate azimuth, elevation and upcoming visible-pass windows for the selected satellite.

The tracker does not claim that every Starlink point on the map is visible to the naked eye. Optical visibility depends on the satellite’s geometry, whether it is sunlit, how dark your sky is, and conditions such as cloud and light pollution that this orbital model cannot measure.

Why the map changes continuously

Starlink satellites are in low Earth orbit and the constellation is dynamic: satellites are launched, maneuvered and occasionally deorbited. TagBuilder Space uses current CelesTrak OMM/GP data with SGP4 propagation, so the map reflects the latest catalog available to the site rather than a permanently fixed satellite count.

CelesTrak publishes current orbital element groups and explains its modern GP data formats at CelesTrak GP data formats. The tracker also reports source freshness so delayed source data is visible rather than silently replaced.

Starlink train versus the full constellation

A recently launched Starlink group can appear as a compact train, but the full constellation is much more widely dispersed. If you specifically want recent launch groups and an animated local sky view, use Starlink Train Tonight. For a mixed list of bright satellite candidates, use Satellites Above Me Tonight.
